Overview

A unique drawing illustrated by Creative Japanese Calligraphy Artist Kōji Takano.
This artwork was drawn in WActivity JAPAN live session on YouTube.

Description

The author created this artwork on the occasion of 「節分」“Setsubun”, the day before the beginning of spring according to the traditional calendar.
It depicts some typical elements of this festivity: a box of roasted soybeans, in Japanese 「福豆」“fukumame”, with the kanji for “fortune” on it; the 「鬼」“oni”, “ogre”; the 「お多福」“otafuku” (aka “okame”), the “smiling woman” who brings good luck and prosperity.
It is customary to thrown the “fukumame” out the front door or at a member of the family wearing an ogre mask.
In the center it reads the word “Setsubun” and in orange the ritual words used to drive away the evil: “Devils out! Fortune in!” (「鬼はそと!副はうち!」“Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!”). In gold, a wish from the author: “Greeting rid of bad luck. Welcoming good look”.
