Description
The author created this artwork on the occasion of “Children's Day” (「子供の日」“Kodomo no Hi” aka 「端午の節句」“Tango no Sekku”).
It depicts 「金太郎」“Kintarō”, aka “Golden Boy”, one of the most iconic characters of Japanese folkloristic imaginary.
This legendary hero, commonly represents holding an axe and wearing only a bib with the kanji for “gold” on it, represents youthful vitality and strength.
The samurai helmet, in Japanese 「兜」“kabuto”, is another element that represents strength and courage. In this case it is made of origami, emphasizing the playful aspect of this festivity.
The sentence reads: “Today's step creates the future.” (「今日の一歩が未来をつくる。」“Kyō no ippō ga mirai wo tsukuru.”).
